Sunday Worship Cancelled, August 29, 2021

Sunday Worship Cancelled
August 29, 2021

St. Michael’s Parishioners,

As Hurricane Ida continues to strengthens, it seems wise to cancel Sunday service.

Below is a Zoom link for a 9:00 a.m. Morning Prayer service. We will also stream to our Facebook Page. If you are not able to join or call in to the service on Sunday, I encourage each of us to hold one another and all in the affected areas in our hearts and prayers at 9:00 a.m. It is good to know we are praying for one another.

If you know anyone who does not get these emails, please notify them of the link below and the phone number to call in.

Liz, Liam, and I are evacuating to Tallahassee as we do not want to be without power (air conditioning). Please take care of yourselves, your family and friends, and neighbors.  As we hold the events that began on August 29th sixteen years ago in our everlasting memory, please take extra care of one anothers’ stress and anxiety, and know that God is with us with great love and presence in all things.

Please remember if you run a generator, DO NOT keep it in your garage or under your roof’s awning! A few of the casualties from Hurricane Laura in Lake Charles were due to carbon monoxide poisoning from generators.

The Zoom link for Sunday Morning Prayer is below.

God’s Peace and Blessings,
Fr. Robert

A prayer from the Rev. James Martin, S.J.

Creator God, we ask you to calm the wind and the waves of Hurricane Ida, and to spare those in its path from harm.  Help those who are in its way to reach safety.  Open our hearts in generosity to all who need help in the coming days, in the Gulf Coast region and beyond.  Lead us as a nation and as a church to take climate action that may help to mitigate future storms.

In all things, and in all times, help us to remember that even when life seems dark and stormy, you are in the boat with us, guiding us to safety.  Amen.

Updated Covid Guidelines

A Prayer for Guidance

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being. We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I write today to share some updated COVID-19 protocols. The Delta variant of COVID-19 is now present and strong in South Louisiana. In recent days we have seen a significant increase in both case numbers and positivity rates, and our local COVID hospitalizations are increasing. In just the last 14 days, there have been more than 2,500 positive cases in St. Tammany Parish.

With this news, and in consultation with our wardens, the diocesan office, and healthcare professionals, we will return to mask wearing during worship and indoor gatherings effective immediately. We ask that everyone, aged six and older and regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask.

The current COVID positivity rate for St. Tammany Parish is 14.8%. As long as it is above 5%, masks are required during worship and indoor gatherings.

Vaccination is still our best and greatest hope against this variant. We urge all who are eligible to get the vaccine. The vaccines are safe, they are effective, and nearly eliminate the risk of severe illness and death. For yourself and for your neighbor, please get vaccinated.

If you are immunocompromised, sick, or at high risk, it is strongly recommended that you stay home. Worship with us online via <facebook.com/stmichaelsla/live >. Contact the church office before Friday and we will make arrangements to bring communion to you.

We pray for the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit, and pray in thanksgiving for this community in which we share one another’s burdens.

Fr. Robert Beazley
